By this time of year, the bees know that the long days of summer will soon be coming to an end. Before fall, they need to be sure there is enough honey in the hive to sustain the queen, her brood, and the part of the hive that will overwinter, tucking everybody in and keeping everybody warm.
As you can see from this sideview picture I took, lots of the bees are loaded down with yellow pollen and are waiting their turn to get back into the hive with their bounty.
Some of the other field bees are coming over to watch and listen to a variety of special “bee dances”. The bees that have just been out will happily “tell” the other field bees where the pollen can be found that they have just brought back.
Bees know music, and they know their GPS.
